Leominster, Massachusetts is the home of the original pink flamingo lawn ornament. Designed by Don Featherstone in 1957 and manufactured in a local factory, the pink flamingo quickly became an iconic lawn decoration. Other companies have copied his design, but authentic Don Featherstone flamingos have his signature embossed on their bellies.
Author/illustrator Rachel Armington has always kept a pink flamingo. The bright pink is a focal point in the yard, and a cheery pop of color during gray New England winters. But after one particularly blustery autumn storm, her pink flamingo disappeared. Where did Pink Flamingo go?
